About Me

I’m a Brooklyn native, attended New York City Public Schools and the High School for Leadership and Public Service. I earned a bachelor’s degree from the University at Albany (SUNY Albany), briefly attended Touro Law School, and served in the United States Army attaining the rank of Lieutenant. While in the military I served as the Senior Officer of the Fort Totten Honor Guard. I’ve worked in community development, economic development, advocacy (housing, gender, funding, arts, youth), and community organizing, among others.

I’m a Founding Board Member of the New Kings Democrats, Board Member of the New lots Nehemiah Homeowners Association, Co-Founder of Rooted Theater Company, the only Theater Company in East Brooklyn with my husband Kareem Nemley. I was ordained in 2018 as a Minister of the Gospel at Restoration Temple Ministries, where the Apostle Emeritus is Yvonne M. Harrison and the Senior Pastor is Rose L. Hardy. Since 2014 I’ve served as the Chairman of the Transportation Committee of Community Board 5 in East New York.

I’ve worked on some incredible campaigns, Nydia Velázquez for Congress, Carolyn Maloney for Congress, Diana Reyna for New York City Council and Barack Obama for President. I’m a graduate of the LGBTQ Victory Institute Candidate & Campaign Training and the Latino Leadership Institute Electoral Activism and Leadership Academy.

I currently work for the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (“NAACP”). I was formerly a Project Manager for Loans, Grants & Special Initiatives for Empire State Development where I managed a $3B cumulative portfolio focused on job creation and retention throughout New York State. I live with my husband, daughter and dog in East New York, Brooklyn. I’m an equity and justice Democrat running to serve as the next Council Member for the 42nd District, which includes East New York, New Lots, Remsen Village, Spring Creek, and Starrett City.
